Sing Duets

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Porter Wagoner and Skeeter Davis Sing Duets was released in May 1962 on RCA Victor. Both already had a successful solo career in country music and were signed to the same label. For this album they worked together for the first time. Chet Atkins produced the sessions, which took place in Nashville in February 1962.

The record contains twelve duets, mostly covers of existing country songs. Rock-A-Bye Boogie comes from the Davis Sisters, the group of which Davis had previously been a member. There are also Have I Told You Lately That I Love You, Gonna Find Me a Bluebird and A Little Bitty Tear. In June 1962 Billboard chose the album as Spotlight Album of the Week and praised the traditional country sound with strings.
