The Spice of Life

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

The Spice of Life is the second album by singer Marlena Shaw and her last studio record for Cadet Records. Richard Evans and Charles Stepney arranged and produced it, and Bobby Miller supervised the album. The record was released in 1969 and contains ten tracks.

It includes covers of Call It Stormy Monday by T-Bone Walker, Go Away Little Boy by Gerry Goffin and Carole King, and Anyone Can Move a Mountain. There is also original work, such as Woman of the Ghetto and Liberation Conversation, which she wrote together with Bobby Miller. Best known is her version of California Soul, a song by Ashford and Simpson. This was the first time she recorded Go Away Little Boy.
