Purple Haze
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Song
In 1966 the American guitarist Jimi Hendrix came to London and formed the Jimi Hendrix Experience there with two British musicians. Purple Haze was released on 17 March 1967. Hendrix used distortion and feedback as a sound, not as a mistake. British guitarists such as Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck came to watch and were impressed. In June 1967 he played at the Monterey Pop Festival and became a star in America too.
Listening
Listening tip. The intro begins with a tritone, the interval that was once called the devil's interval. Then comes the Hendrix chord, E7#9.
