Flash
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Flash is guitarist Jeff Beck's fifth studio album and was released in July 1985 on Epic. It was meant as an excursion into the pop of the time, and Nile Rodgers therefore produced the album. There is singing on almost all the tracks. The guitarist sang himself, at Rodgers's insistence, on Get Workin' and Night After Night, and Rod Stewart came back for People Get Ready. Only Escape and You Know, We Know are instrumental. Escape won a Grammy in 1986 for best rock instrumental performance.
Critics heard dance rock and funk, with many synthesizers and drum machines. The reviews varied. One writer thought it one of his best records, another felt that he played a supporting role on his own album. He himself was later not happy with it.
