Mother Focus
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Mother Focus · Mother Focus is Focus's fifth studio album, from 1975, on Polydor in Europe, Atco in North America and EMI in Japan. Some tracks depart from the prog rock of earlier records and point towards funk with a little light jazz and pop. The tracks are also shorter than before: the longest lasts 3:55. Bassist Bert Ruiter supplied most of the themes, because Thijs van Leer had just made a solo album, O My Love, and Jan Akkerman was holding back songs for his album Eli.
The closing track Father Bach is credited as traditional, but consists of the opening lines of Bach's Matthäus-Passion. Van Leer plays organ, piano, flutes and synthesizers, Akkerman guitar, Ruiter bass and David Kemper drums.
