Dinah Washington Sings Fats Waller
From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work
Dinah Washington Sings Fats Waller · Dinah Washington Sings Fats Waller is Dinah Washington's seventh studio album, released in 1957 on the label Emarcy. Verve reissued it in 1990 under the title The Fats Waller Songbook. She sings twelve songs that the jazz pianist, organist and singer Fats Waller wrote or played, such as Ain't Misbehavin', Honeysuckle Rose and Black and Blue.
Bob Shad produced the record and Ernie Wilkins arranged and conducted. The orchestra includes well-known jazz musicians such as the trumpeter Clark Terry, the saxophonist Benny Golson and the trombonist Melba Liston. In Honeysuckle Rose and Everybody Loves My Baby, her then husband, the saxophonist Eddie Chamblee, sings along in playful duets. According to AllMusic, the record combines Waller's lively songs with Washington's expressive singing, which handles the classics with ease and is particularly emotional.
