Man From Two Worlds

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Man From Two Worlds · Man from Two Worlds was recorded in 1963 for the Impulse! label. Chico Hamilton's group of 1962 and 1963, a quartet or quintet, is regarded by critic Scott Yanow as one of the best he had. The album received little attention at the time. The band featured Charles Lloyd on tenor saxophone and flute, Gábor Szabó on guitar and Albert Stinson on bass. Charles Lloyd wrote almost all the pieces.

According to Yanow, the group put more emphasis on melody and softer sounds than the avant-garde bands of the time, but still pushed at the boundaries of the music. He gave the album four and a half stars. The CD reissue has four extra tracks from the previous record, Passin' Thru. The longest track on the original album is Forest Flower, which lasts well over ten minutes.
