Drumfusion

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Drumfusion is an album by drummer and bandleader Chico Hamilton, recorded in 1962 and released on Columbia. All the compositions are by Charles Lloyd, who plays tenor saxophone and flute in the band. Trombonist Garnett Brown, guitarist Gábor Szabó and bassist Albert Stinson also play. The line-up is unusual: alongside saxophone and flute we hear trombone and guitar, while the bandleader himself sits behind the drums. The six pieces last between five and well over eight minutes.

AllMusic reviewer Scott Yanow finds the music at moments melodic, but not boppish, and in places free, but not avant-garde. According to him it is a consistently infectious and inspiring band.
