Fresh Outta 'P' University

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

After his years as P-Funk's bassist, Bootsy Collins released the studio album Fresh Outta 'P' University in 1997. It was first released on WEA/Black Culture in Europe and Japan, and then in the United States on Private I, distributed by Mercury. Many guests take part, including MC Lyte, Rodney O, D Meka, Thomas D and Smudo, and Fatboy Slim. From the P-Funk family, Bernie Worrell, Fred Wesley and Garry Shider, among others, play on it.

The album came out in several editions. The European deluxe version consisted of two CDs in a sleeve that folds open into six panels, which together spell the word Bootsy. The Japanese New Edition contained remixes of Party Lick-A-Ble's and Do the Freak. The track listing also differs by version: the European one contains Home-Of-Da-Freaks, for example, the American one Shiggy Wiggy.

Listening

Listening tip. Listen to Do the Freak and notice the role of the bass in the groove, the instrument of the man who made the album.
