Never Gone

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Never Gone was released on 14 June 2005 on Jive Records, after a break of almost five years since Black and Blue. In that time each member worked on projects of his own, until the group reunited at the end of 2003. The first recordings with The Underdogs did not catch on. The group then sought out Max Martin again. Unlike on earlier albums, only real instruments can be heard, and the style shifts from teen pop to pop rock.

The title song came about after the death of Kevin Richardson's father. Incomplete was the first single and reached the top ten in several European countries. Critics were mixed to negative: they saw a more mature sound but missed the energy of the earlier hits.
