Original Rockers

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Original Rockers is a compilation album of singles that Augustus Pablo recorded between 1972 and 1975. It was released in 1979 on Greensleeves and compiled by the journalist and photographer Dave Hendley. The tracks were recorded at Channel One and Dynamic Sounds in Kingston, Jamaica, and mixed in the studio of the dub engineer King Tubby.

Robbie Shakespeare and Aston Barrett play bass, Earl Chinna Smith guitar, and Dillinger is guest vocalist on Brace a Boy. The album is included in The Rough Guide to Reggae: 100 Essential CDs. Trouser Press recommended it as a perfect starting point for anyone new to reggae and called the production clear and spirited.
