Jagged Little Pill (acoustic)

From HitStory, the pop encyclopedia of School of Rock · Work

Jagged Little Pill (acoustic) · For the tenth anniversary of Jagged Little Pill, Alanis Morissette re-recorded her successful 1995 album. Producer Glen Ballard wrote string arrangements and gave the songs extra studio treatment. It became a largely acoustic version, available from 13 June 2005. At first the album was sold only at Starbucks in North America, which led to a quarrel with HMV Canada. The cover is a sepia-toned reference to that of the original.

Critics were generally negative. The album received 40 out of 100 points on Metacritic. Many reviewers felt that the anger and raw emotion of the original had disappeared and that the sharp edges had been softened. Others wondered why it was necessary, since Perfect and Mary Jane had already sounded acoustic in 1995. Hand in My Pocket became the single in the United States.
