25 · After the success of 21, Adele thought for a while about giving up music. In 2012 she announced a break, and after the birth of her son in October 2012 she felt like recording again. The first sessions stalled because of writer's block. Only when her son was a year and a half old did she return to the studio. She did not want to make a second 21, nor a new heartbreak album.
The album was released on 20 November 2015 and is described as a make-up record. The lyrics are about nostalgia for the past, the passing of time, motherhood, new love and regret. Unlike before, the production uses electronic elements, inventive rhythms, organs and influences from 1980s R&B. Hello became an international number 1. Critics praised the production and the singing. The album won the Grammy for Album of the Year and became the best-selling album of 2015.
