Josylvio

Josylvio is the stage name of Joost Dowib, a Dutch rapper born in 1992 in Naarden. His mother is Dutch, his father Egyptian. He began in 2015 under the name Jaybay and made himself heard that year in a Zonamo session. That same year the single Le7nesh with Sevn Alias was released. The track gave him the chance to make a debut album.

Music and breakthrough

That album is called Ma3seb and came out in 2016. Josylvio made it together with the hip hop producer Esko, a friend from his youth. It reached number five in the Album Top 100 and earned a nomination for an Edison. In 2017 2 Gezichten followed. He also contributed to All Eyez on Us, a joint album by Dutch rappers as a tribute to Tupac, a hero from his youth. His third album Hella Cash (2018), the fourth Gimma (2019) and the fifth Abu Omar (2021) all three reached the top of the Dutch album chart.

Influence

Josylvio collaborated often with other Dutch rappers, such as Ali B, Hef, Adje and Jairzinho. He is thereby one of the faces of Dutch hip hop of the 2010s and 2020s. In 2018 he took part in the television programme Expeditie Robinson, which he left voluntarily. His music shows how quickly Dutch-language rap gained a permanent place in the charts.
