Metaphorical Music uit 2003 is het debuutalbum van de Japanse muzikant Nujabes, die de titel in kleine letters schreef. Het combineert hiphop met instrumentale jazz en haalt daarvoor gasten binnen als Shing02, Substantial, Five Deez en Cise Starr van CYNE. Toch geldt het in grote lijnen als een instrumentaal hiphopalbum, ondanks al die stemmen.

Nujabes bouwt zijn nummers op samples uit de jazz en aanverwante muziek. Horn in the middle gebruikt een fragment van Joshua van Miles Davis, Blessing It komt van Pharoah Sanders, en Lady Brown van Luiz Bonfá. The Final View leent van Yusef Lateef, A day by atmosphere supreme van Pat Metheny en Lyle Mays. Uyama Hiroto werkte mee aan een aantal bekende stukken, waaronder Letter from Yokosuka en Next view, en keerde terug op de latere albums Modal Soul en Spiritual State.
