The Correct Use of Soap

The Correct Use of Soap is het derde album van de Engelse postpunkband Magazine en verscheen in 1980 bij Virgin Records. Martin Hannett produceerde, Malcolm Garrett ontwierp de hoes. Sommige nummers keren terug naar de snellere ritmes en scherpere riffs van Real Life, na het tweede album Secondhand Daylight. Twee songs verwijzen naar Dostojevski: Philadelphia naar Raskolnikov uit Crime and Punishment, en A Song from Under the Floorboards naar Notes from Underground.

Het was de laatste plaat met gitarist John McGeoch, die daarna naar Siouxsie and the Banshees vertrok. Singles waren A Song from Under the Floorboards, Sweetheart Contract en een bewerking van Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin) van Sly and the Family Stone. De Britse pers was verdeeld: Record Mirror gaf vier uit vijf, Smash Hits vond het vergeetbaar. Het album bereikte plaats 28 in de Britse albumlijst. In 2009 speelde de band het in zijn geheel in de Royal Festival Hall.
