Leap of Faith · Dit zevende soloalbum verscheen op 10 september 1991 bij Columbia Records. Het was het eerste album na zijn scheiding, en met twaalf nummers is het opvallend langer dan zijn eerdere platen. Er werkten veel gasten mee. Sheryl Crow zingt mee op de titelsong en is duettpartner op I Would Do Anything, en Smokey Robinson en Mavis Staples hebben korte gastrollen.

Vier nummers kwamen uit als single: The Real Thing, If You Believe, Now or Never en Conviction of the Heart. Dat laatste lied werd later door vicepresident Al Gore de onofficiële hymne van de milieubeweging genoemd. Het album opent en sluit met een kort instrumentaal thema, Will of the Wind, met akoestische gitaar van Will Ackerman.
