Alto Saxophone Improvisations 1979 is een soloplaat van de Amerikaanse saxofonist en componist Anthony Braxton. Hij nam de stukken op in 1978 en 1979 en bracht ze uit op het label Arista. De opnames vonden plaats in Big Apple Studios in New York, op 28 en 29 november 1978 en op 21 juni 1979. Er staat niemand naast hem: het is alleen zijn altsaxofoon.

De meeste stukken zijn eigen composities met een compositienummer als titel, zoals Composition 77 A en Composition 26 F. Daartussen staan drie bekende stukken van anderen: Red Top, Along Came Betty en Giant Steps. In 2008 verschenen de opnames opnieuw in de box The Complete Arista Recordings of Anthony Braxton bij Mosaic Records. Scott Yanow van AllMusic schreef dat de bedachtzame maar gevoelige improvisaties genoeg afwisseling bevatten om de aandacht vast te houden, ondanks de sobere bezetting.
